I am a huge fan of basketball. (you would know if you had read my other blog in my personal blogs. Wink wink nudge nudge) I love watching basketball, palying basketball and even just talking about basketball. Anyways, I am in grade 7 and here in B.C, we go to high school in grade 8. In high school, there are many new opportunities such as different classes, the opportunity to learn new music and develop your skills, even cooking. One of them is the basketball team. For me, getting on the high school team is a huge opportunity, one, for the chance to improve my skills and acquiring new skills and two to help me get a start for college basketball where I will try to get in the NBA. But for me to get on the team, I need to improve on a few things. First off, I need to improve on my shot, a lot. I have been having some problems with my shots. I have been missing some shots, I don't have enough power on some shots and on some shots, I even get it on the rim and it just swirls around and around and then falls out. I hate when that happens, it always gets me excited and lets me down, it's the worst.

I also have to improve on my trick moves without looking, sometimes I will be trying to go around a defender by using fancy moves and I will just be looking at the ground when someone over by the net is wide open.

It's important for me to improve on these things because if I don't, I won't be able to get on the high school basketball team that in turn, could give me a crucial start in getting into the NBA.

I will improve on these things by practicing on certain things everyday and focusing on the things that I need to improve.

A dog and a boys acceptance of each other

Today my class watched a video about a boy with a very rare condition called Schwartz-Jampel syndrome. Schwartz-Jampel syndrome is a condition where your muscles randomly contract. The boy was named Owen. Owen was diagnosed with Schwartz-Jampel syndrome at the age of 2. When Owen was 6, he got a wheelchair so he could roll around wherever someone pushed him. When owen was being rolled around, he started seeing people point at him and stare at him, he felt alone. When his parent's started noticing him not wanting to leave the house and when they noticed he was more nervous, they thought about what they could get or do to make Owen feel not so alone. One day while Owen's mom was looking on facebook, she saw an adoption post for an Anatolian Shepherd named Haatchi. When Haatchi was a puppy, his previous owner tied him up to a railroad where he got hit by a train. When a worker at the train station saw the Haatchi, he thought it was dead but when he got closer, he noticed it wasn't dead. The worker noticed that Haatchi was missing it's back left leg and it's tail, he took it to a vet and then sent it to a shelter. Owen's mother had put Haatchi in owen's room while he was still asleep. When Owen woke up, he saw Haatchi laying on his lap. As soon as Haatchi and Owen were together, owen started going outside together and they started going for walks again. In the video, I believe Owen said "It feels like Haatchi feels what I feel and I know how Haatchi feels" and that means a lot because the connection between them is phenomenal, it is so rare to find someone that has that strong of a relationship with an animal, some people don't even have that strong of a relationship with their parents. I think we watched this because it shows that nobody should be judged and everyone and everything can and should be appreciated no matter how you look or how you speak. This video made me remember when I was little and my friend and I went to the SPCA (A shelter for animals) and I saw a 3 legged dog, at first I was a little bit freaked out but after a little while, I realized that this dog was no different than any other dog and had a unique personality, I realized that you can appreciate anything that you honestly can't judge anything by it's cover. This video relates to me because a few years ago, I found a stray cat that was injured, I managed to keep it at my house until she got picked up by a person from an animal shelter.

live life to the fullest because you never know if today is your last

Today we watched a video called "The time you have (in jellybeans)". The video shows us not to waste our time, to think about what to do with our lives and to live life to the fullest because we never really know when we will die, we cant see the future and we don' know how long we have left so why wait to do the things that we love, would you rather do what you love to do or die regretting and wishing that you had. An idea that I had was to create a bucket list every month so you never waste your life.
I think that we watched this video because it is extremely important to know to live life like you have one day left because if someone is stopping you from doing what you love to do then you need to do it anyway or leave that person and do what you love because  if you don't you will not be happy with yourself and your life. Imagine if NBA players didn't overcome the obstacles that they had to to get in the NBA, then there would probably not be even a quarter of the great players that there are today.
This video made me remember the time when I was little and I was really shy and I was always scared to talk to people that I didn't know but I always loved to make people laugh so one day, one of the teachers at the school, Mr.Temple, read a book to me with a funny voice and it really made me laugh, and ever since then, I have always been the person to make people laugh and have been really open with talking to people
This video relates to me because I always try to live life to the fullest by doing things that I've never done that look scary like tubing over a enormous wave instead of bailing and jumping in the water or jumping off of high platforms into water or even stopping an easily flippable boat right in front of orca whales that swam right underneath the boat just for the fact that tomorrow might be my last day.
This video made me feel extremely inspired to do what I want with my life.

People are like birds, the things that you love are your wings and when you don't do what you love, you can't fly away. -Kyle.C (Myself)

Catching kayla reflection

So today my class watched a video called Catching Kayla about a girl who discovered that she had Multiple Sclerosis, a long lasting disease that can affect your brain, spinal cord, and the optic nerves in your eyes. It can cause problems with vision, balance and muscle control. Kayla couldn't feel her legs when she got warm or hot from sports. Kayla was a soccer player but then went into competitive running with a coach who she trusted her life with, the coach was an amazing coach because he didn't care if Kayla had a disease or not, he trained her like he would train anyone else except for the fact that Kayla never gave up.
I think that we watched this video because it shows that no matter how your body is, if you have a disease or not or if you think that you can't do it, as long as you don't give up, you will be able to do it.
This video reminded me of a student who would've been in grade 4 at my school named Gage. Gage has been fighting cancer for many years, the reason that this reminded me of him is because even though he had cancer, he always seemed so happy and always looked on the bright side of things, he always found a way to do it. Rest in Peace.
This video relates to me because last year, I started playing soccer and one day I pulled a muscle in my right leg while kicking the ball, and had to play with my left leg for the games and practices which I am not good at doing because I always use my right leg to kick the ball.
overall, this video reminded me that nothing is impossible and even though that this sounds cheesy, it's true if you put your mind to it, it's possible.
(you can probably tell that I'm a huge Rocky fan)
