THIS IS A CONSPIRACY!!!

I like metaphors, straightforward and simple, I always like making things out of other things even if it is completely crazy, like when I thought that when my parents said "I was just thinking" meant "I was asleep" because I like the mystery  or things that are misleading. In Touching Spirit Bear, there are a lot of metaphors, The spirit bear itself is probably a metaphor, for what? I don't know something cool, something mind blowing probably. That's why I like Metaphors, you don't know what they can symbolize, Sometimes there is a metaphor inside a metaphor, Metaphors are so powerful, imagine of someone just said "if you wake up early, you get more" now doesn't that sound so weird, that's why metaphors like "The early bird catches the worm is fun". Do you know any mind blowing metaphors?

I can relate to the book because I have always been really into trying to be like Les Stroud, I know it sounds childish but it is truly fun to try and survive for a night on your own with only a pocket knife, and no, I did not get mauled by a bear, I got attacked by a duck once but anyways, you also learn a lot about the wilderness and you make mistakes and learn from them, surviving can be very powerful, As Cole has found out, it creates a connection with nature. Do you ever feel like you are more connected to nature at certain times? If you do, when do you feel this?

The skies the oceans and the forests

Recently, my class has been reading a book called Touching Spirit Bear and in it, as you probably can tell, there is a spirit bear and that got our class talking about the spirit bear statues that are scattered across BC. I have seen quite a few spirit bear statues around and I love them, I have always seen cool pictures of nature on them, one of my favourite ones isn't even a bear, it is an eagle with a picture of the island beside it, it is in horseshoe bay and everytime I go there, I see it and just admire it because half of it is above water and the other half is under the sea with all kinds of animals, it is amazing. And that statue inspired me to create this design for my spirit bear. I have always been so in love with nature and ever since I was little, I've wanted to see the Aurora Borealis, i've seen so many pictures of the Aurora Borealis just lighting up an area in the middle of the night, there is just something so beautiful about it. The other half of it is a picture of Bowyer Island, it seems like in every blog, I manage to bring up Bowyer Island so you probably already know all a out Bowyer, but in case you don't, My friend Steven and his family have a cabin on Bowyer Island, an island in B.C Canada filled with lush green forests and beautiful beaches, and I get the opportunity to go there in the summertime and it is beautiful there. So I thought to put a picture of bowyer island on the second half of it. I am really proud of how it turned out and I would love to do it again (or to a real spirit bear statue)

Letter to Teachers of Kalamak Indian Residential School (Novel study/New Novel)

3/2/2015

Dear teachers of Kalamak Indian Residential School, you are doing many things wrong. First of all, physical discipline is wrong, there are many effective alternative ways to discipline students such as: Limitations to privileges (although you don’t give them many privileges) such as being able to talk to other students during “free time”. Another way that you can discipline students is with verbal discipline, you can start making them think about what they’ve done and you can make them realize that what they’ve done is wrong.

Another thing that you are doing wrong is changing them and not letting them practice their religion/culture. As a school, you want to teach students things, Correct? But if you try to change the students and make them unhappy, they will not learn as well, if you discover what the students like, and use that as an advantage to their learning, they will learn much more efficiently.

You are also doing wrong by not letting them talk about the school to their parents, if you are scared that people will know about the ways of the school, then you are for sure doing something wrong and/or bad to the students. You also should know that if students want to run away, then your school should be treating students better, I’m sure that all of the teachers at the school have made a mistake and haven’t gotten punished, so then why would you punish the students? It only makes it worse.

The students hate you, is that really what you want? It only makes learning harder for the students.

So change the rules, make it more beneficial for the students and less abusive.

End of term 1 reflection

I am extremely proud of my work throughout this year but I am most proud of my blog, every day I've been adding posts, personalizing my blog, writing personal blogs about how I feel and I have been posting all of my projects on to my website, I really hope other students get the opportunity to have a blog because it is such a great experience for people to learn
I worked the hardest when I was working on projects with a group and expressing my thoughts while creating either a science project or a Global Read Aloud project.
My behaviour this term was great because everybody cooperated well. This had a positive effect on my learning because it is a lot easier to learn when everyone works well together.
My favourite thing I've learned about so far this year is coding and biomes because I've always wanted to program on a computer and doing the biomes project was a lot of fun and it was also learning
On a whole, I think I have been coming to class prepared to learn because I am usually only focused on school and I'm never really tired at school.
3 things I need to do to improve my academics are 1. Not fool around when the teacher is talking 2. not talk to people when the teacher is talking and 3. making sure I do my homework at home before I do anything else
I think I have been a good classmate so far because I am constantly helping people and am always looking for other ways for people to understand something.
3 things I need to start doing to be a better classmate are 1. trying to get people to do their homework by reminding them that there is homework 2. Trying to get people to be quiet and listen instead of minding my own business 3. not talking when someone is presenting something.
In the comment section of my report card today I expect to see some compliments and some ways to improve, it is really important to know what I need to improve on so I can learn more efficiently
3 SMART goals I have for next term are 1. Starting on the first day of school until the last day of school, I will try to learn 30 percent more efficiently by listening a lot more while Mr.Dorland is teaching stuff I already know because I might be able to learn something new 2. Starting on the first day of the 2nd term until the last day of school I will try to help at least 3 quarters of the class every week by asking people if they need help. And 3. Starting on the first day of the 2nd semester until the last day of school, I will try to do 100 percent of my homework within 15 minutes of when I get home.
I have thoroughly enjoyed this term mostly because of my teacher, he has done a great job making me passionate about my work and making me engaged!

life goals

Hi,  Im a grade 7 student who was never really good or into art, I always wanted to get better but I could never find a way so in grade 5, I set a goal for myself to become more passionate and get better at art because I had always had trouble in art. I would always have crooked lines and colour outside of the lines. I achieved this goal by watching a ton of videos on how to get better, trying for hours to get nice lines and trying to draw perfect shapes. After a while, I got inspired by this one person on Youtube because he had always put countless hours into drawing one picture. One day, I had just watched one of his videos and I tried drawing a Leopard, I wanted to quit at certain times but I kept going and didn't give up. I ended up drawing for the whole day and managed to draw a leopard that I was really proud of, it was the first drawing that I thought didn't look like my regular drawing, it looked much better. I knew that I achieved my goal when I brought my drawing to school and saw that everybody was telling me that it looked really good, I was really proud of myself. If you ever have a goal and you feel like it would never happen, just keep trying and never give up, you will achieve that goal if you try hard enough.

Just remember, you can do anything you set your mind to, but it takes action, perseverance, and facing your fears. -Gillian Anderson

The One sentence project

10/9/2014

The One Sentence Project is a project where we write down a legacy that we want to achieve. The One Sentence Project teaches us that no matter how small you are, you can always make a difference in the world.

He will be the one who helps less fortunate people and let them live life with joy (gives homeless people food, money, a place to stay and a job).

I chose this legacy because I have always had a passion for helping people in need and I always feel bad for homeless people.
