Have you ever found yourself soaring through the air? Have you ever heard a crowd screaming and yelling and then just not hearing it because you're so focused on one thing? I feel these things every day. Whenever I play basketball, I have no worries, no thoughts other than basketball. When I pick up the ball, I don't think about what I'm going to do with it, I just do it. Basketball feels natural to me, I feel like I'm in the right place. My parents always used to tell that they couldn't believe that I could dribble a basketball when I was so young. I even remember dribbling around my deck with a basketball when I was 3. Basketball is my passion, everyday I strive to be better at it because I want to be remembered as one of the greatest players, up there with Michael Jordan, Lebron James and Kobe Bryant. Now I know this sounds pretty farfetched but It just feels right to play basketball. One day, I watched this show on how Lebron James put his city on the map, how he got into the NBA at 18 years old. I got inspired by this and started to not just play basketball for the fun of it but to improve and become better.
A few days ago, my school basketball team played our first game of the year against another school, during the game I started dribbling around one of my teammates, I made it look like I was going in for the layup but I didn't. When I saw my check standing behind my teammate, I felt my body take over, It felt like it was in slow motion, I couldn't hear the crowd anymore, all I could think about was the shot. I focused my eye on the net, I positioned my hands on the ball, jumped up from the 3-point line and took the shot. I could almost hear the ball flying through the air. I saw the ball go in without touching the rim or the backboard, it was nothing but net and instantly, it sped up again and I was back in the game. When I see that open lane and I go in for a layup, I feel Weightless, I feel as if I can make any shot I want, it just feels natural.
I know it is going to be extremely hard to get into the NBA but that is why I want to be in the NBA, to show that I can work hard and persevere to do what I love. Some basketball players are so amazing, it seems like a children's story when you talk about them (such as Michael Jordan)
Basketball is my passion and I don't know what I would do if I couldn't play basketball.
